George Balock

Full Day
Dull tools, catches, tear out? If these problems plague you, here is the HOW for you. In this HOW, I will walk you through how I sharpen tools (gouges and scrapers and skews oh my) and give you the reasons why I do it the way I do. Then you will have a chance to do it yourself. After that, we will do a simple project with your newly sharp tools and talk about why and how catches and tear out happen. Hopefully you will walk away with new skills that will make your woodturning experience that much more enjoyable.

Introduction to Turning Hollow Globe Ornaments with Simple Finials
Nancy Rourke
Saturday, May 18, 2024
3 Students
Full Day
This class is designed for turners with basic spindle turning skills to progress to a more advanced skill of turning a sphere or spheroid shape and then hollowing it thru a small hole. Then students will learn the skill of turning a simple short and a mid length finial and fitting them to the hollow sphere to produce a lightweight hollow ornament.
The class will probably not require the full day, but the extra time scheduled will allow the students enough time to finish their ornaments without being rushed. We hope you will enjoy making these ornaments for yourself, family, and friends. In addition we hope that this class will serve as a means to help all levels of the turners in our group to they feel they have the needed skills to participate in a charity project that involves making tree ornaments, which the club is planning for later this year. After registering students will be sent information including directions to the shop, list of needed supplies and tools, and lunch information
